Create a Sterling Silver RingÂ
Ring making can seem intimidating, but it’s an essential part of jewelry making and is the perfect place to begin. In this hands-on ring making class, you’ll create your own sterling silver ring from scratch.
Not only will you leave with beautiful, wearable piece— you’ll also gain practical skills that can be applied to future jewelry projects.
Whether you’re new to metalwork or just want to try something creative, this class offers a great starting point.
What You’ll Learn
Throughout this three-hour session, you’ll be introduced to foundational techniques used in professional jewelry studios. First, you’ll measure and cut sterling silver ring stock to your ring size. You will individualize your ring using stamping tools, hammers, etc. Then you’ll learn how to shape your ring in order to prepare for soldering. It allows you to make a more individualized ring and understand more about soldering a band. You will finish the course by learning how to polish your ring. Once you understand this process you can replicate it in our studio again and again for just $15 an hour.
Take the Next Step
This ring class is an excellent introduction, but there’s so much more to explore. If you’re feeling inspired, we highly recommend taking Benchwork Basics next. That class builds on what you’ve learned here and introduces bezel setting, sawing, granulation, and more. If you’re not quite ready to jump into a 3 week course we also have our silver hoop making class or our bezel setting class, which allows you to work with custom picked cabochons from local stone supplier Shiny things for Shiny people!
All materials are provided — just bring your curiosity and leave with an individual ring you made yourself!
