What You’ll Learn

Each of the six evening sessions builds on the last, helping you develop both hand skills and creative decision-making. You will:

  • First, learn to saw and pierce shapes from metal using a jeweler’s saw

  • Next, practice filing and sanding by hand and with a flex shaft

  • Then, size and form a ring band to fit your finger

  • In addition, use a dapping block to create curved and flared forms

  • After that, explore polishing methods to finish your work cleanly

  • You’ll also measure and prepare cabochons for bezel setting

  • Then, solder a bezel onto a backplate using a torch

  • As an embellishment, try granulation techniques to add decorative detail

  • Finally, set your cabochon stone securely into the bezel

Each step introduces a new tool or material, allowing you to gain familiarity with the full range of bench practices.

Why Take This Class?

Because of its well-rounded approach, this course is ideal for anyone who wants to build both skill and confidence at the bench. You’ll complete small finished projects while learning how to approach more complex pieces in the future.

It’s a perfect next step after our Stacking Rings class, and a strong foundation for continuing practice in our Guided Studios or more advanced jewelry workshops.
