Learn to cast natural materials, lace, and found objects into metal in this introductory casting class!
In this two-day course, you’ll explore how to transform delicate and unexpected items — like lace, plastics, bugs, flowers, and more. You’ll learn how to turn them into beautiful metal forms using the lost wax casting process.
On day one, you’ll learn how to sprue your chosen items. On day two, you’ll cast your flasks with the instructor’s guidance and begin cleaning up your pieces.
IMPORTANT:
If you plan to bring your own objects (lace, textiles, organic materials, or small found items), please email us in advance with a list or photos. This allows us to confirm that your selections will work with the casting process and fit within the size limits of our equipment. The largest flask we can accommodate fits a 2″ x 2″ x 2″ object.
Fresh, soft organic materials generally cast best. However, the instructor will also cover techniques for working with dried or more complex items.
This fun, hands-on casting class is open to all — whether you’re completely new or looking to expand your skills.
This course is designed for beginners, but is a great follow up to our wax workshop or wax and wine!
Materials:
Students may bring their own casting grain or purchase it on day two (available in bronze or sterling silver).
Will be provided with green carving ring wax by the studio, but welcome to bring your own wax materials.
You will use wax carving tools, hot wax pens, and wax files.
