An Afternoon of Wax, Wine, and Creative Exploration
Join jeweler Jason Spencer for a relaxed, hands-on afternoon of wax carving and creativity — with a little wine and charcuterie to keep the vibes flowing! This playful yet informative workshop introduces the art of carving wax models, which are used to create cast-metal jewelry.
Whether you’re a total beginner or just curious about new jewelry techniques, this is the perfect way to dip your toes into wax work without pressure.
What You’ll Learn
In this class, you’ll learn how wax fits into the traditional lost wax casting process. Step-by-step, Jason will guide you through:
-
Selecting and handling different types of wax
-
Using carving tools safely and effectively
-
Shaping and building up forms
-
Adding texture, detail, and personal flair
-
Understanding how your wax model becomes metal through casting
Each student will begin with a piece of green carving ring wax, a classic material for sculpting precise jewelry forms. Once you’re comfortable, you’ll also have the opportunity to explore additional types of wax to experiment with different textures, shapes, and approaches.
We’ll keep the atmosphere light and social, but you’ll leave with a solid understanding of the basics.
After the Workshop
After class, your finished wax model will be professionally cast in metal by our studio team. We’ll cut sprues, tumble-finish your piece, and either ship it to you or have it ready for local pickup the following week.
This is a great entry point into wax work and casting. For those who want to dive deeper, we also recommend our casting objects class, which focuses on the full casting process from start to finish.
