Join metalsmith and educator Jason Spencer for a five-day immersive casting course exploring both additive and subtractive wax working methods. This intensive workshop is perfect for artists looking to expand their technical skill set, develop original work, and gain hands-on experience with multiple casting techniques in a supportive studio environment.
What You’ll Learn
Over the course of the week, students will be guided through:

Subtractive Techniques: Learn how to carve wax by hand using traditional tools and methods to develop refined, sculptural forms.

Additive Techniques: Build up wax models through layering, dripping, and assembling—ideal for creating organic, experimental shapes.

Spruing and Investing: Understand how to properly prepare your wax models for casting using investment materials.

Burnout and Casting Process: Gain hands-on experience with the kiln, vacuum caster, and centrifuge casting your own pieces in metal.

Finishing Techniques: Learn essential cleanup and finishing steps to bring your pieces to a professional level.
