Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to expand your skills this allows you to learn how to take raw stones you find, and turn them into wearable jewelry.
From Riverbed to Jewelry!
On day one you will meet at the studio (bring your sunscreen and a snack, maybe lunch, and definitely a water bottle!). Zach will bring the group, you’re welcome to drive on your own or carpool, to a hiking spot not far from the studio. Then y’all will hike to a nice spot and Zach will explain his methods for rock-hounding. He has been rock-hounding for years and has a well of knowledge on the subject. He has taken his explorations all over the country and would love to fill you in on his many stories!
On day two you will meet in the evening. This is the day you take the stone you found and turn it into a cabochon! You will learn how to trim it to size using a diamond saw. Then, Zach will walk you through the step-by-step process of shaping and polishing it using lapidary grinding wheels.
Once the cab is finished, you can move onto creating a setting for it! The next 3 evening classes will be dedicated to designing and creating a bezel set piece for the stone you found and shaped. You learn practical skills, like soldering, ring making, bezel setting, and more!
