DATE: Saturday, November 8th · 10 AM – 6 PM
TUITION: $210 + $35 Materials Fee (tax included in materials price)
About the Class
Explore the ancient art of sand casting in this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop. Guided by Jason Spencer, you’ll learn how to transform a simple object into a cast bronze or silver piece using traditional sand mold techniques.
Students will create a two-part sand mold using an object or jewelry component of their choice, then prepare, pack, and pour molten bronze to bring their design to life. This process is a great introduction to the world of casting — accessible, immediate, and deeply rewarding.
What You’ll Learn
Throughout the day, you’ll gain practical experience in:
-
Understanding part lines and mold preparation
-
Packing and venting sand molds
-
Torch-firing and bronze pouring techniques
-
Cleaning, chasing, and surface finishing
Jason will walk you through every step with an emphasis on safety, control, and craftsmanship.
Why Take This Class
Sand casting is one of the most approachable forms of metal casting, perfect for beginners eager to experiment with molten metal without extensive equipment. Students will leave with their own finished bronze casting (approx. ½” x ½”) and a strong foundation for further exploration in the casting process.
If you enjoy this process, Jason will also be teaching a longer-form Casting Intensive later this winter, expanding on lost wax casting and more advanced techniques.
All Levels: No experience required. Open to all skill levels.
