Prong Setting with Shalena White
Dates: November 4th, 6th, & 11th
Time: 6:00 – 10:00 PM
Tuition: $360 + $60 Kit Fee (tax included in materials price)
About the Class
In this three-session evening workshop, artist and instructor Shalena White will guide you through the process of creating a one-of-a-kind prong-set design. Prong setting is one of the most versatile and expressive stone setting methods in jewelry making. Perfect for stones and objects of unique shapes and sizes. This class is an excellent follow-up to Benchwork Basics, also taught by Shalena, and is ideal for students ready to expand their fabrication and stone-setting skills while working on a distinctive personal piece.
What You’ll Learn
Over the course of three evenings, you’ll design and fabricate a custom prong setting from start to finish. Shalena will demonstrate how to plan, build, and refine prongs to securely hold your chosen stone or object. You’ll explore how this technique can be adapted to nontraditional materials—students have used it to set buttons, coins, pins, and more. By the end of the class, you’ll walk away with a completed prong-set piece and the confidence to incorporate this method into your own jewelry designs.
Materials & Notes
Your kit includes a 2″ x 2″ sheet of sterling silver, sufficient for most designs. We recommend selecting a cabochon or object smaller than this size. Students may choose from our wide selection of cabochons available for purchase, or bring their own stone to class. If you plan to work larger, please email us in advance to make arrangements for your design.
