Join us for a hands-on summer jewelry camp where kids and teens ages 11-17 will learn real metalsmithing techniques in a fun, safe, and creative environment! Whether you come for just one day or the whole week, each session offers a new project and skill set—from enameling and etching to texturing and riveting. Students will explore tools like hammers, kilns, torches, and more! All while making their own wearable art alongside other young artists.

Here’s what we’re making each day:

Monday, July 6th – Texturing and Roller Printing: On day one they will learn 2 new techniques!! Starting with a pre-cut octagonal shaped piece of copper they will learn rolling mill, stamping, and hammered texturing techniques. Getting a chance to work with metalsmithing basics! Then at the end they will take their design and make a print onto a sheet of paper, learning some basic print making. $20 materials fee.

Student Outcome: One copper plate and a print

Tuesday, July 7th – Etching and Riveting: Students get to work with ferric chloride to acid etch their own drawn designs into copper! They’ll gain and understanding of how acids effect metal while also solidifying their own design in metal forever. Then they will learn another cool technique, sawing! Sawing is one of the foundations of metalsmithing and an essential tool for any junior jewelry maker. After lunchtime students will undertake cold connections. They will learn how to rivet and tube rivet. $35 materials fee.

Student Outcome: One completed charm with custom design.

Wednesday, July 8th – Enameling: Campers will learn how to fuse colored powdered glass onto copper in this class. They can choose to enamel their etched piece if they participated in the previous days camp as well as enameling 2-3 samples and one custom keychain! This day gives the opportunity for kids to use color on metal and try out a technique that jewelers have used for thousands of years. $45 materials fee.

Student Outcome: Two to three sample tiles with one completed keychain.

Thursday, July 9th – Chain Making: In this camp, kids will learn to create jump rings and weave them together to create different kings of chain designs. They have the option to add beads or charms provided by the instructors. Students with experience from previous days are welcome to create their own charms! $10 materials fee.

Student Outcome: One bracelet or necklace chain made of copper and brass rings.

Friday, July 10th – Assemblage: The last day is a day for fun and creativity. It expands jewelry making into the world of found objects. Students will choose from a treasure trove of objects to create a new design from something old. They will use cold connection techniques to transform and upcycle old treasures into new unique pieces. $20 materials fee.

Student Outcome: One small sculpture or jewelry piece
