Master the Art of Chain Making

In this three-day evening workshop, metalsmith Shalena White will guide you through the timeless craft of chain making. You’ll learn to create a handmade round cable chain that’s both elegant and durable.

Chain making is one of the most foundational skills in jewelry design. It allows artists to craft custom lengths, experiment with texture, and achieve a truly personal aesthetic. Whether you’re a beginner eager to build confidence with metalwork or a returning student expanding your skillset, this class provides the perfect foundation.

Learn Each Step by Hand

Over the course of three sessions, you’ll develop a strong understanding of how to create and assemble jump rings, connect links, and solder thin wire for secure, lasting connections. Shalena will demonstrate how to shape and finish a toggle clasp that complements your chain design, offering both function and style.

Once your chain is assembled, you’ll move on to polishing techniques that bring your handmade work to a professional shine. Each step will help you refine your precision and control, skills that are essential for all jewelers.

Build Skills and Confidence

This workshop is excellent for those who want to deepen their technical skills while working on a satisfying, hands-on project. You’ll leave class with a completed bracelet! As well as a better understanding of fine soldering, and the ability to continue chain making on your own. Then you’ll be able to make chains to complete pendants you made in other workshops, like prong setting.

Join us for an engaging three days of craftsmanship, creativity, and connection as you learn how to make a chain completely by hand!
